Unique Venues’ parent company and Australia’s largest business tourism sales representation company, DMS Destination Marketing Services celebrates a business milestone when it turns 15 years old on 1 July 2007.
Defying advice and going against the belief that a representation company could not survive Australia and New Zealand’s volatile 1990s tourism industry, Managing Director Leila Fiedler has watched her company grow from strength to strength.
Today, DMS employs 12 qualified staff and represents over 40 worldwide leading business partners including Destination Management Companies (DMCs), hotels, resorts and venues.
“The company’s birthday is an achievement which could not have been reached without the support of the many business partners and industry friends I have made over the last 15 years,” said Leila Fiedler, Managing Director.
“The creation of our new, modern logos to mark our 15 years is another exciting development and we are looking forward to many more successful years to come,” she said.
COMPANY HISTORY
There is no secret to the story. After many years of working in the hospitality industry, Leila identified a gap in the industry – a lack of a professional sales representation in the growing Conference & Incentive (C & I) market. The concept of connecting overseas DMCs to the Australian and New Zealand C & I market was brought from Europe by Leila and proved successful in servicing the fast growing local industry.
The effect of September 11 on the tourism industry was the catalyst for DMS to branch into other operations independent of the DMC division. In 2002, the luxury hotels, resorts and venues division Unique Venues was established. Today, the division represents a number of leading properties including Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Raffles Hotels & Resorts, The Byron at Byron Resort and ZEST@Royal Motor Yacht Club.
Leila is adamant that if there are any tips for business success, they are to employ people who are highly qualified, share the same work ethic and believe in strong customer service. To do so has the knock-on effect of growing a loyal client base and in DMS’ case, there are business partners who have been with the company since its inception. Reputation is also paramount and has worked to DMS’ advantage of attracting large, quality companies such as Pacific World Network (Asia’s largest DMC) and USA Hosts Destination Services (North America’s largest DMC) to its portfolio.
DMS has ensured right from the beginning to establish a professional office, keep up with the ever changing tourism trends and to expand its business without over committing its resources.
